Advanced Practices at Hexham Abbey – 2012

(All 7.15 – 9.00pm)

Advanced practices at Hexham Abbey are either on Mondays or Wednesdays towards the end of each month. They are held on Wednesdays during school holidays when there is no choir practice, and this gives those with a Monday practice night an opportunity to come. Meet at 7.15 for a 7.30 start. The dates of the practices this year are shown above. I also send out notices by email a couple of weeks before each practice. If you would like to be added to this distribution list, or removed from it, please let me know.

Methods rung may include any of the standard 8 surprise major, singly and spliced, and Yorkshire, Cambridge, Lincolnshire, Superlative, Pudsey, London and Bristol Surprise Royal, and others by request. Methods rung vary considerably from one month to the next, and depend upon which ringers are attending the practice. Ringers regularly travel from Carlisle, Penrith, Berwick, Morpeth, Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland and Gateshead to attend the practices. Approximately 42 ringers attended advanced practices in 2010, with an average monthly attendance of 16. Visiting ringers from outside the area are very welcome.

Special methods: Bristol S Major, Spliced S Major (3-8), Stedman Caters, Cambridge S Royal, Bristol S Royal + other surprise major and royal by request.

If you are planning to come to an advanced practice please ring (07776395214) or email () me first to let me know you are coming, and which methods you would like to ring. This enables me to have an idea of numbers and you to find out if the practice is on and what we are likely to be ringing. Very occasionally, if the number coming is very low, I may cancel the practice to save people having wasted journeys. I will do this by contacting all those who have let me know they are coming.
