Advanced
Practices at Hexham
Abbey are either on Tuesdays or
Wednesdays towards the end of each month. They are held on Wednesdays during
school holidays when there is no choir practice, and this gives those with a
Tuesday practice night an opportunity to come. Meet at 7.15 for a 7.30 start.
The dates of the practices this year are shown above. I also send out notices
by email a couple of weeks before each practice. If you would like to be added
to this distribution list, or removed from it, please let me know.
Methods rung may include any of
the standard 8 surprise major, singly and spliced, and Yorkshire, Cambridge, Lincolnshire,
Superlative, Pudsey, London
and Bristol Surprise Royal, and others by request. Methods rung vary
considerably from one month to the next, and depend upon which ringers are
attending the practice. A few practices throughout the year may be designated
“major only”. Ringers regularly travel from Carlisle, Berwick, Durham, Sunderland and Gateshead
to attend the practices. Approximately 60 ringers attended advanced practices
in 2008, with an average monthly attendance of 17. Visiting ringers from
outside the area are very welcome.
Next practice
The next Hexham practice is Tuesday,
21st July 2009. (Please note that this is the penultimate Tuesday,
as we are away on our summer trip in the last week of July)
Special methods: Lincolnshire S Major,
Bristol S Major, London S Royal, Yorkshire S Royal + other surprise major and
royal by request.

ring. This enables me to have an idea of numbers and you to find out if the
practice is on and what we are likely to be ringing.
