Saturday, 13th June: Hexham entered two teams
in the 8-bell striking competition at Shildon, one team ringing Yorkshire and the other call changes. The Yorkshire team came first overall and won the Freda Burton
trophy (we would still have won this if we had come 6th, as we
were the only method band!). The call change team came 5th out of
six teams. St Cuthbert’s
Darlington won the President’s Plate
for the best call change band.
Saturday, 9th May: Hexham retained the John Anderson Rose Bowl
in the 6-bell striking contest final at Cramlington. The results were:

2nd Durham
University, ringing Durham Surprise Minor,
31 faults
3rd Newcastle
Cathedral, ringing Cambridge Surprise Major, 32 faults

Three quarter peals (of Yorkshire
S Royal, Plain Bob
Royal, and Grandsire Caters)
were rung at Hexham as part of the D & N quarter peal weekend, 16th
– 18th January 2009
A new peal board, which records a peal of Stedman Caters
rung on Easter Day 2003 as a farewell compliment to Canon Michael Nelson, the
previous Rector of Hexham, was dedicated during choral evensong on Thursday,
15th January 2009. The service ws conducted by the present Rector,
Canon Graham
Usher, and was followed by
champagne in the ringing chamber, during which the board was hung on the
south wall and speeches were made, before a touch of Stedman Caters started
the practice.
On Saturday 10th January Amy Cousins
rang her first quarter peal of Cambridge
S Major inside, two years after her first lesson. This was her 21st quarter
peal.
It is now possible to check when the bells at Hexham have
